This is the 17th edition of Blogging Marathon with the new Blogging Marathon structure.
Before going into the details, a small intro on how bloggers are accepted to the group.
While all along, the thought and idea behind Blogging Marathon has always been to support all types of bloggers, be a month old or have been blogging over couple of years, we have now reached a stage where it has become important that we take up bloggers who have the passion and dedication to justify the readers time. It becomes very important to make sure each blogger who signs up, show a certain level of maturity, dedication and in general, being conscious of the reader’s time. So towards that, it is decided that the group has some entry criteria in place. Each blog will scrutinized to make sure it fits the requirement before being accepted for the marathon.
There is no rule in BM that says one should write prose from English literature or take pictures that will fit a glossy magazine. However a certain degree of these are required to make a good read, which your readers will appreciate and will make them loyal readers.
Towards this, it is mandatory that when you sign up, you decide to spend valuable time being part of the group. That also means, no hasty and hurried posts, no posts that looks like last minute dished out recipes with blurry pictures that may be from nowhere. Your posts should have a mandatory picture of the dish published. Sticking to a reasonable time frame of posting as per the rules of the marathon is expected. Though I am quite lenient towards this, one has to understand and accept that by being part of this group, there will be other members who will want to read their posts.
In lieu of this, it is decided that if any blogger does not post more than two days in a row, will not be qualified for the next edition.
This is mostly because the themes are announced at least 10 days ahead and everybody have enough time to decide and take up themes and be prepared.
In addition to this, each theme is also restricted to only four bloggers on first come first bases. If you are selecting a theme that’s already picked up, you will have to select another theme. If more bloggers sign up, a case by case decision will be taken. This is to make sure we don’t have 10 bloggers doing the same theme where it does become very monotonous.
I have been proud of the way BM has paved way to build a great community. The group makes sure we read and support each other. If you have been following us, then you know that not only do we support the other blogger by reading and commenting, we also have private discussions which is an open forum. Being part of this group means, you got to actively take part in the discussions and to read the other participating blogger posts. If you are not ready for this, then this is not for you.
I have created a separate page for Blogging Marathon. Once I get all details I will be updating this page. Bloggers taking part in this marathon need to just link back to this page.
So coming to the change that is proposed, I realized it was time for some changes in Blogging Marathon. Though BM gets us blogging to post non stop for 14 long days, sometimes the blog is inactive during other weeks of the month. When I put this across to the group, many felt the same. So I decided it was time to try a new pattern and change in schedule.
So this is what I came up with. We will be having 3 non stop blogging each week. So instead of two weeks of BM, we will now have 4 weeks of BM with only 3 days of posting.
The dates are going to be fixed as well to make it easy for us to work around.
Every month it’s going to be held on these dates
The above dates are fixed. This new BM Rule will be effective from June.
Due to unexpected turn of things, I couldn’t post the themes ahead this month. But I am hoping to do it much ahead from next month on.
BM rules will not change, in terms of visiting and commenting our fellow runners as that’s what makes it all interesting.
Each blogger will have to sign up for at least 2 weeks. It can be any two weeks, it can be two consecutive or alternate weeks.
Each month there will be 7 themes, same theme can’t be taken twice. So it means when you sign up for 4 weeks, you will be posting 4 different themes with 3 posts each.
Each month I will have some special concession for folks who sign up for 3 or 4 weeks. It is applicable only for them. Folks who do 1 or 2 weeks will not have this special feature.
The entry is again by Sign ups and each theme will again have only 4 bloggers on first come first basis.
And because of the new rules I will not be able to accept late sign ups as it will become extremely hard for me to manage otherwise. If you feel you want to do it, please decide ahead, else you can join later.
Commenting on the week blogger’s post is mandatory.
And subscription to the group will be monthly basis.

Mandatory rules for this Blogging Marathon are as below:
- Will have to post on all 3 days with 2 weeks without fail
- Should take up 2 weeks of BM without fail. It can be any two weeks.
- Should follow the accepted theme all 3 days, meaning if you choose one topic like Rice, you should post all rice based recipes all 3 days.
- Should link to the Blogging Marathon page.
- Is expected to actively give feedback on others post.
Each theme can be selected by four bloggers on first come first bases.
Other rules will be mailed to the individuals.
Kid’s Delight – Evening Snacks/Tiffin
When it’s vacation time, it becomes very important to have ideas for snacks / tiffins for kids during the evening. So you are welcome to make snacks or tiffins that can be served for kids during the vacation time.
Please make sure you follow the instructions. And serve only those light tiffin dishes or snack items that a kid will be delighted to have.
The dish can be either sweet or savory.
June Edition will be hosted by Vardhini Koushik.
Sun Dried products
These should mandatory showcase those dishes that are either sun dried (Vathals, Vadams etc). pickles (that require sun drying), fresh vegetables stored by sun drying or cook with those sun dried products. Procedures to how to sun dry is also welcome
Deep Fried Vadas/ Fritters
While we go easy on healthy and light dishes, no doubt we go gaga on deep fried snacks too. I strongly believe everything is fine in limited quantity. So bring on your deep fried vadas or fritters.
This theme should only include those vadas or fritters that use the batter to be mixed with the lentil or vegetables used and not stuffed like bajjis.
Cooking with Edible Flowers – Pick one and make many.
Have you ever used flowers and parts of flowers in your dishes? Now is the time to explore! It can be the flower as such or parts of flowers as well. Many years back we had an event featuring this theme, check out round up for ideas
Rule is you got to pick one and make different dishes with the same ingredients. Like Hibiscus can be used in different dishes. No artificial essence or extract is allowed. The star ingredients has to be in fresh/dried/extract form.
Indian Sweets – Payasam or Halwas
No meal is complete without a sweet, especially our Indian meals are must to be followed up either in the beginning or end with a sweet. So for this edition, let’s make only some payasam or halwas. No other version to be included.
Cooking with Ready made stuff
Though I love making things from scratch, I also found that making dishes with ready made stuffs helps at times. You can either use ready to use food that requires you to just heat and assemble or use it part of the cooking. You can use spice powders like Rasam powder, Masala powders for mixed rice dishes, to make dishes but not store bought chili powder etc.
It can be any course of the meal as well.
Well I got to balance the themes somehow right, with deep fried dishes, one can only expect some salads on the side to balance it right!
So anything that gets served as a light refreshing salad can be made!
Special Theme – Revisiting the old with new pictures
This special theme is only for those who sign up for all 4 weeks. They can revisit their old posts, they can simply post new pictures of the same dish, or modified recipes, or simply adapt to make a new recipe.
Anything is allowed but the post has to be a new one, with a link back to the old one. Your new post should have new pictures, if you are re working on the old post.
We are always adapting our own recipes, so if your new recipe has some change, please highlight with new pictures.
