I know I will have to make something for them tonight. So this non chocolate dessert was not something they liked, but Konda liked it and enjoyed munching on it. Well I happy that this atleast met some approval for it to be featured here. These are very similar to your regular maida based sweets, like Badusha or Kaja, even the method turns out similar. But the end product is quite different.
Also you got to make it as a ball, even though you pleat it. That’s how you will get that flaky texture after you bite into it.
All purpose flour / Maida – 1 cup
Sugar, powdered – 1/4 cup
Powdered sugar – 2 tbsp for dusting
Salt a pinch
Oil hot – 2 tsp
Butter – 1 tbsp
Oil for deep frying
How to make the Maida Rolls/ balls
In a bowl, take the flour, salt, sugar, butter, Maida and crumble well. Slowly add water and knead to a soft dough.
Cover with a wet muslin cloth for 30 mins, then knead again.
Pinch out small balls from the dough, dust well and roll out like a chapati.
Grease the top with soft butter all over. Start folding in towards the end and finally when you get a rope, circle it again to form a roll. Press the sides well to make sure it doesn’t come out.
Finally press again to everything close well.
Heat a kadai with oil, deep fry these balls and cook on both sides.
Remove once they are cooked.
Cool the cooked balls in a plate, and dust the powdered sugar once the balls cool down. Take care not to dust right away, else the sugar will melt.
